The fine weather returned to Oviedo for the official free practice day on Friday 9th June. The first morning session was largely ignored by the drivers who preferred to focus on the next three. In addition to the limited number of tyres allowed, the stock of chassis and rear axles began to weaken after several days of testing on the very brittle track of the Fernando Alonso circuit.

The analysis of the times of the day was a puzzle as to the real value of the performances recorded. For example, it is sufficient to take a good line on one of the kerbs to gain 2 or 3 tenths while taking a certain risk of damaging the equipment. Andrea Rosso (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Jack Doohan (FA Kart / Vortex) were the most successful in this strange exercise with best laps of 58”1, far ahead of Harry Thompson (FA Kart / Vortex) and Paul Aron Tony Kart / Vortex). Spanish drivers like Genis Civico (FA Kart / Vortex) and Rasmus Joutsimies (FA Kart / Vortex) were also very fast, as well as Ilya Morozov (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Luigi Coluccio (Exprit / Vortex). Gillian Henrion (Tony Kart / Vortex) was the fastest of the French, followed by Hadrien David (Zanardi / Parilla) and Evann Mallet.
