An important figure in French karting of the 2000s, Patrick Caron suddenly died on Monday 23rd January 2017 at the age of 66 years.

Patrick Caron, a passionate karting and motorsport enthusiast, chaired the FFSA National Karting Commission from 2002 to 2009. He also represented France from 2004 to 2009 in the CIK-FIA Commission where his varied skills were appreciated.

His broad knowledge of the environment and the seriousness with which Patrick Caron always fulfilled hisaims were unanimously appreciated. A hard worker preparing his files with care, he knew how to defend his opinions with strong arguments and held his course at all costs. He has always worked for the accessibility of karting to the greatest number while maintaining France among the great nations of the sport. He was heavily involved along with Michel Fabre in the FFSA Grand Prix Karting, which inspired several contemporary organisers, such as the DKM.

Organised under his presidency, the CIK-FIA World Championship at Angerville in 2006 remains one of the major successes of the previous decade in France. Patrick Caron also supported the rise of the Essay circuit to international level, culminating with the organisation of the 2014 CIK-FIA World Championship. It is less well known that he was the architect of the creation of the French Karting Schools.

Patrick Caron was able to pass on his passion to his son Morgan, at first driver and then recognised professional in motorsport. It is to him, his family and his close friends that the CIK-FIA expresses its most sincere condolences.
