Comparing like with like, the fastest in the timed practice at several events that have recently taken place, with equivalent tyres, at Adria, there has been a performance increase with the new generation of OK engines of 3/10 to 5/10. To learn this we have put together the times from the 2015 WSK Gold Cup and the 2015 WSK Final Cup, which saw quite similar weather conditions to those of the 2016 WSK Champions Cup. We also looked at the KZ2 times to see possible changes in track conditions.

The gap to KF stood at approximately 4/10 in favor of OK while OK-Junior does not seem to be faster than the KF-Junior, instead slightly slower. This is only a quick analysis from the early season, while the development of these new engines has barely begun. The lower weight has obviously helped to increase the performance of the OK.

The double pole obtained by the RFM team with Vortex Engines from One is not really a surprise, as this pairing has a habit of placing it’s driver at the forefront. Also in the top 10 of the day are Ward Racing, Tony Kart Racing Team, RB Racing, Birel ART Racing, CRG Spa, Kosmic Racing Team, Ricciardo Kart Racing, Formula K Racing Team and VDK Racing, demonstrating a lot of diversity. Vortex still dominates in number of engines in the top 10, but Parilla also has the performance, and TM and LKE are not far off with a 11th place in Junior. To be continued…
