A duel was expected between Ben Hanley (Croc Promotions / TM) and Richard Verschoor (Exprit / Vortex) in the KF final in PFI. After Tom Joyner’s (Zanardi / TM) previous gains he could well play spoilsport from 5th place. The start went smoothly, and Hanley took the lead ahead of Joyner but Verschoor was 5th behind Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG / Parilla) and Juan Correa (Energy / TM) while Ben Barnicoat (BirelART / Parilla) took 6th from Alexander Vartanyan (Tony Kart / Vortex). Joyner took control on the third lap. No less than 14 drivers were in the leading group.

Verschoor took 3rd place on the fourth lap and Hanley attacked on the next lap. The young Dutch prodigy recovered the lead from lap six, but dropped to 5th soon after. His English rivals didn’t give him an inch! Joyner led from Hanley and Correa in a battle that we hadn’t seen for a long time. Martijn Van Leeuwen and Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG / TM) competed for 5th position. at the front Hanley let his guard down and Correa took the opportunity to go 2nd while Joyner took a bit of a gap. Hanley responded immediately to Correa. quiet early in the race, Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart / Vortex) made his appearance in the leading group in 6th position and even took 5th ahead of Verschoor at halfway, then 4th after passing Hiltbrand.

The top three had significantly outpaced their opponents during this turbulent phase. Joyner controlled the race by 5/10 in front of Hanley, Correa remained 3rd by a second and Nielsen 4th by 1.8”. By lap 15 there weren’t many exchanges after that, except for Verschoor who found the opening on Nielsen on lap 21 and finished 4th. Joyner won with great confidence against his compatriot Hanley and Correa mounted the third step of the podium. Hanley continues to lead the championship, but winning the title will have to wait the event at Kristianstad.
