Marta Garcia, who was selected by the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission to receive a funded drive in the 2015 CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy, won the opening round of the series at the Circuito Internacional Zuera, near Zaragoza.

Pitted against a field of 49 other drivers from 35 nations, the 14-year-old Spaniard conquered the notoriously fast circuit to claim the fastest lap and outright victory by 2.8 seconds. Marta’s combined points from the qualifying heat and final see her top the Trophy standings after the first of the three rounds on the calendar.

Commenting on her result, Michèle Mouton, President of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission said: “This is the second year we have supported Marta, we felt she had promise and this is a fantastic result for her. There is a big field of youngsters all competing in the same equipment, so this is a great achievement and one that I’m sure will really motivate her further. Encouraging youngsters at this age is really important and hopefully Marta will inspire other young girls to come along and give karting a go.

The FIA Women in Motorsport Commission is working in partnership with the CIK-FIA, helping to encourage young women into the sport at grass roots level.
