Although the sun has shone constantly on Zuera, it is also windy and this made for fresh weather on Saturday morning for qualifying in KZ2. The qualifying exercise demands here more than anywhere else, especially a good strategy to take advantage of the slipstream. In the first session, Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG / Maxter) set the fastest lap of 59”941 in front of Alessio Piccini (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Felice Tiene (CRG / Maxter). Thomas Mich (BirelART / TM) was 5th by 0.268”, with Maxime Roy (BirelART / TM) and Eric Ramon (TB Kart / Modena) towards the back of the rankings.
Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart / Vortex) was the fastest of the second session with a best lap of 59”856, the best performance of the day, ahead of Sean Babington (Energy / TM), Yohan Sousa (Zanardi / TM) and Fabian Federer (CRG / Maxter). There was disappointment for Lorenzo Camplese (Formula K / Parilla) who was very fast the day before but this time behind by 0.415”. Andreas Fasberg (Tony Kart / Vortex), the leader in the standings, was even further back in 10th position by over 5/10.
Thomas Laurent (Tony Kart / Vortex) was even stronger in the third and final session lapping in 59”800 in front of Joel Johansson (Energy / TM) who was highly effective late in the session, while Jorge Pescador (Praga / Parilla ), in 3rd, started well. Luca Corberi (Tony Kart / Vortex) was 6th by 0,235”.
Overall, it was a double for the French team Cédric Sport with Laurent on pole just ahead of Besancenez. Johansson was 3rd, Hiltbrand 4th and Pescador 5th. Corberi was 10th, Sousa 11th, Tiene 12th, Mich 17th, Camplese 23rd, Fasberg 31st, Roy 35th and Ramon 35th.
