CIK Best-of 2014: Vinuales joins the stars of Superkart

The third European crown won by the French Emmanuel Vinuales allows himself to establish his reputation and return to the small circle of the most successful Superkart drivers. He has beaten his compatriot Damien Payart in the ranking of champions and the only record remaining is that of the late Martin Hines, the four-time European Champion. This season Vinuales focused exclusively on the European Competition. Each time, he has made significant progress. Despite his retirement in the first race, he took a perfect score with 3 wins in the 3 races selected.

The first Competition at Assen (NLD) was amazing. Tell us about it!

– We went into the unknown a bit but we had prepared the equipment. In the early laps of Qualifying, I was reassured about my performance. Not being able to start in Race 1 was a hard blow. I really wanted to take my revenge the next day. There was a big fight at the start of Race 2, but I didn’t lose out and at the end I was back with Kout. It was a great relief followed by joy on the podium.

The duel with Kout also took place against the clock?
– At Assen, I set a very good time in the first session, relegating everyone by more than a second. Kout set the fastest time in the second session, so I thought that was the positions set. I was surprised by the unique time that had been inaccessible to all of us for years! Indeed, he crushed the old lap record held by Bennett. But in Race 2, my set-up was perfect and I beat this record again during the race. We were very competitive.

Was the win at Val de Vienne (FRA) a formality?
At Le Vigeant, we were very focused on racing, the season was well underway and the equipment was perfectly prepared. That said, I won twice and winning the Championship is never easy, I had no room for error. The fact that Kout retired in Race 1 meant he had more pressure, but I was faster and I didn’t encounter any trouble. 2014 has been a great season, even though we only raced in two Competitions.
