CIK Best-of 2014: Dale, a gentleman European Champion

Though only 27 years old, Andrea Dale is a gentleman driver who is in karting for fun primarily. After many seasons in ICA, KF2 and KF1, he moved to 125cc gearbox in 2012. Very fast since the beginning of this season, the CIK-FIA European KZ2 Championship was his first international title. 

What state of mind were you in this season in Europe?
I race mainly for fun, and I had no other purpose at the start of the year. It turned out that I was immediately on the pace, with very good top speed: the equipment was very competitive. I thought I had a chance to do well in Europe, but not well enough to win the title!

How did the three Competitions of the Championship go?
I was fine for the first at Genk after the momentum of the first races of the season. At Wackersdorf I had a lot of difficulties in the rain and I did not score any points. Finally, things turned around in Sweden. I was in the rhythm of an unusual circuit, albeit one that I enjoyed, even though it is not easy to pass the drivers who stay in the middle of the track. The Prefinal didn’t go very well, but I still managed to take fifth in the Final and I was able to win the championship.

What does the title mean for you?
It is above all a great satisfaction. In my case, it will not change my way of thinking about racing or make other races easier. Competition is always tough. But it is still important to put one’s name in the international rankings. I will continue to race as long as I have the opportunity and desire, trying to fight for the win every time.
