CIK Best-of 2014: Ardigo, a career at the top

Already crowned twice in KF1, Marco Ardigo has achieved excellent performances in KZ, without being rewarded as he deserved. At Sarno this year, this success was finally added to the career of an exemplary driver.

Marco, what was your goal this year?
– I wanted more than ever to win the World Championship after several seasons when victory was in sight but escaped at the last moment. I stayed very focused lap after lap, telling myself, “Stay calm, stay calm, everything will be okay!” When De Conto passed me in the Final, I was not impatient. I had total confidence in my equipment, I waited until the grip came back to my chassis to attack.

What is the importance of your third world title?
– In general the first World Championship is the most important in a career. But for me, it means just as much as I missed out on it several times.

What do you think of the World Championship in 2014?
 – It is more stressful to play as a single race, but when you win, it’s so much better! Competition is very tough now in KZ. The first 10 are often very close and everyone can win. He also had to adapt to the harder tires after so many years of soft rubber. But at the end of a season, you get used to. Times are slower, but the control does not change the final.

What are your future plans?
– I hope to continue to race at the highest level for a few more years with the Tony Kart Racing Team. It is a great pleasure to work with such a prestigious team that provides optimal working conditions.
