“Karting deserves a better audience in the mainstream media”

At 40, Davide Fore is the most successful driver in the global business. During his career he has raced against F1 Drivers such as Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg … Perfectly on the pace in 2014 and motivated as in the beginning, the Champion from Italy fought for victory in KZ and KZ2 with great enthusiasm in most races of the season. His professionalism and experience allow him to have a view on karting that is relevant today.

How did this season go in KZ?
– It was not easy … I got some wins, but I wish I had won a CIK-FIA title. The competition is now very tight. IAME joined the most competitive engine manufacturers in KZ this year, which was a nice surprise. Vortex also worked very well against the most common brands such as TM and Maxter. The differences are now very small between these engine manufacturers. The new ‘Prime’ tyres reduced grip and it was not always easy to adapt. In Sarno, during the CIK-FIA World Championship, I had problems and I came back from the 30th to 15th place in the final, but I could not aim for victory.

What do you want to do next in your career?
– I do not feel quite ready to hang up my helmet. I still have a lot of will to win, I am in good physical condition and I like to fight against young drivers. There are less and less professional drivers at present, which is a concern. But I am determined to continue to race as long as I can.

In your opinion, what does Karting need to do to develop?

– I know that the economic climate is not favourable for big projects, but karting has all the ingredients to appeal to a wide audience. The races are exciting and spectacular, organization is superb, the teams are very professional and use a lot of high technology. And this is the first step towards motorsport. The champions of tomorrow are here. This should interest and attract many people. We should be able to expand the coverage beyond the specialist press and channels. If we can find the audience for karting, there will be no problem. This will attract sponsors and the sport will develop as it deserves.
