The Parrilla family, who have played a leading role in the history of karting for 55 years, were awarded a special CIK-FIA Trophy “in honour of their long and outstanding contribution”, presented to Angelo Parrilla at the CIK-FIA Prizegiving ceremony in Milan, on Saturday, January 24th, 2015.

It is thanks to Giovanni Parrilla’s passion that karting, a sport he got to know while visting a distributorship in Arizona USA back in 1957, that kart engine design moved on from the industrial type to custom made racing engines. Success followed almost immediately in Italy, in Europe and the rest of the World. His two sons Angelo and Achille then took over to create some of the most beautiful pages in the history of the discipline.

The PB7 – the first Italian kart engine – and the Greyhound chassis, through a long series of CIK-FIA World Champion titles, the first awarded to Guido Sala in 1964, and famous names like Terry Fullerton and Ayrton Senna among many other champions … all have this in common: Parrilla! A name without which the karting would probably not be so successful and whose flag proudly continues to wave over our sport (although today with a single R). They deserved a grateful tribute by the CIK-FIA.
