The sky became threatening over Wackersdorf in the late afternoon on Friday for the start of qualifying. The track had time to dry from the light rain mid-day, but the forecast remains uncertain. The 64 drivers in the European KZ2 Championship would go out in in 3 sessions of 8 minutes each.

Everyone rushed to enter the track, and Gary Carlton (TB Kart / Modena) and Jorge Pescador (Praga / Parilla) were at the top of the table, replaced mid-sessiom by Simone Brenna (TB Kart / Modena) running at 50”288. Kristijan Habulin (TB Kart / Modena) improved o 50” 276, while Matteo Vigano (Top Kart / Parilla) went off at high speed by the stands. Pescador returned to the lead by 5/100, Jan Midrla (Birel / TM) replaced him, but Brenna concluded with a lap of 49” 939 ahead of Habulin and Midrla, Pescador 4th and Joel Johansson (Righetti / Parilla) 5th.

Simas Juodvirsis (Energy / Maxter) was the first to go under 51” in the second session, Menno Paauwe (Birel / TM) then held the lead for a moment with 50’600, then Dylan Davies ( DR / TM) set a 50” 322 before Finn Kooijman (CRG / TM) came very close to 50”, 2.5 tenths ahead of Ricardo Romkema (Energy / TM). Kooijman’s time of 50” 068 stood until the end of the session despite the threat from Davies by 13 thousandths, and then Dominik Schmidt (Energy / Vortex). Michele Di Martino (Energy / TM) took 3rd place at the last moment.

The action in the third session really started with Ryan Van Der Burgt (DR / TM) 50” 334 ahead of Maik Siebecke (CRG / Modena). starting a lap after everyone else, Douglas Lundberg (Alpha / Parilla) quickly joined the top three. Van Der Burgt improved to 50” 261, followed by Lundberg who then took control. Marcel Müller (DR / Modena) went ahead in his final lap of 50” 114. Lundberg was 2nd, Siebecke 3rd and Thierry Delré (DR / Modena) 4th.
