Last week I was talking about the possible introduction of an age 10-14 class, why it was a bad idea and how things like that are decided, and it struck me that owner-driver karting could do with some guiding principles and a sense of purpose so we’re not just floundering about in the dark trying stuff. My thoughts are:
– The equipment should be as simple and light as it can be to do the job
– If there are several ways of doing something the cheapest should be chosen eg. Sprocket restrictions vs rev limiters.
– Don’t make big decisions for the benefit of drivers who are aiming to leave the sport as soon as they can. Prospective car racers are better served by big grids and equal racing than anything else.
– Lots of autonomy for clubs/tracks to make the best decisions of their particular market.
Have you got any other ideas
