The track was wet in the morning, almost dry in the middle of the day, then cooler and cooler during the afternoon, and the changing conditions didn’t make a performance comparison between competitors during free practice of the 19th Winter Cup easy. However, it is easy to identify the fastest of the day, and those most regularly at the front. Here’s a short review of Thursday, February 20th, 2014 at Lonato. It was noted that the gaps were considerably tightened with slicks, perhaps even more so than in the past.

In KFJ, the Italian Lorenzo Colombo (Tony Kart / TM) set the fastest lap with 44” 102 ahead of the German Jannes Fitje (Tony Kart / TBA). Their session was undeniably the fastest of the class. Daniel Ticktum (Zanardi / Parilla) was often fast whatever the conditions, Max Fewtrell (FA Kart / Vortex) and Tommaso Mosca (Tony Kart / TM) as well. There was a good start to meeting for the young Swiss Lucas Légeret (Zanardi / Parilla).

In the KF category, the Romanian Marcu Dionisios (CRG / TM) set a lap of 43” 586, ahead of Sergio Sette Camara (ART GP / TM) and Lando Norris (FA Kart / Vortex). Jehan Daruvala (FA Kart / Vortex), Nicklas Nielsen (Kosmic / Vortex), Nikita Sitnikov (Tony Kart / TBA), and Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart / TM) were particularly competitive.

In KZ2 Fabian Federer (CRG / Maxter) was the fastest at 42” 522, followed closely by Alex Palou (CRG / Maxter) and Ben Hanley (ART GP / TM), Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart / Vortex). Davide Fore (CRG / TM), Paolo De Conto (Birel / TM), Andreas Hansen (Tony Kart / Vortex) were among the most serious players. A special mention for the young French driver Thomas Laurent (Tony Kart / Vortex) who didn’t take long to learn Lonato.
