Babington, Laine, Verschoor and Reilly lead at the end of the heats at Campillos

Saturday at Campillos, a day dedicated to the qualifying heats, began to dry up, but the rain was still disturbing the competition, as was the bitter experience of the Junior drivers in heat CD, who started on slicks and were forced to deal with a slippery few laps on track. This is the standings of the day from the unofficial Kartcom standings.

The Briton Sean Babington (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) won three heats to take the unchallenged lead of the intermediate ranking in DD2. Behind him, three drivers were elbow to elbow with the same score of 9 points obtained with the same places: 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but in a different order. The Belgian Xen De Ruwe (ART GP – Art Grand Prix Team) took second place with a fastest lap ahead of the Spaniard Oriol Dalmau Caballero (Tony Kart – Motor Club Deportivo Creix) and the Swede Andreas Backman (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing ), the same top 4 as in the time trials. The Dane Michael Christiansen (Tony Kart – RS Competition) returned to 5th position ahead of the British driver Henry Easthope (Sodi – Sodi) starting from 10th position and Joshua Collings (CRG – MsSport). There was a superb recovery for the French driver Anthony Abbasse (Sodi – Sodi), 27th on the grid because of his disqualification, and he was back up to 8th. Alexis Coursault (Birel – Sologne Sport Tech) finished the day in 19th place. In DD2 Masters, Finland’s Mikko Laine (Tony Kart – DM Racing) took the lead from the British driver Florent Lambert (Tony Kart – Racing Tatum), while Guillaume Berteaux (Birel – Kartagene) took 3rd place. Christopher Adams (Kosmic – Sonic Racing Kart) moved up to fifth Franck Rouxel (Sodi – Shop Sodi).

In the Juniors, the Austrian Thomas Preining (FA Kart) lost his leadership in favour of the Belgian Richard Verschoor (FA Kart – Team TKP), who had two wins and a 3rd place, and the Estonian Juri Vips (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing), second in the intermediate classification. 3rd in qualifying, the British driver Zak Fulk (Tony Kart – Coles Racing) sank to 24th position. The American Darren Keane (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) was now in 4th place ahead of the British driver Dave Wooder (FA Kart – Dan Holland Racing). The French driver Enzo Coursimault (Kosmic – PKS) successfully completed a comeback from 18th to 11th position, while Louis-Ferdinand Simmenauer encountered difficulties in the last two heats and found himself 29th. After a good start to the racing, in particular his third position acquired on the last round of the CD heat, Hugo Chevalier (Tony Kart – RK Competition) was given the black flag in the last heat and was finally ranked 22nd. Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer (Tony Kart – Jana Racing) finished 25th on Saturday and Vincent Marserou  (Tony Kart – Kart Racing Suau) was 31st, Antoine Perceval (Tony Kart – Drivers SG) 37th, Tristan Carpenter (OTK – DSS) 41st, Tom Lledo (Tony Kart – Kart Racing Suau) 44th and Emilien Carde (Kosmic – Matec) 45th.

The Briton Joe Reilly (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) retained the advantage in Senior with a grand total of 2 wins and a 2nd place in front of his teammate Guan Yu Zhou. Starting in 20th place, the Belgian Michael Cool (Tony Kart – Bouvin Power) was going impeccably in 3rd position ahead of Germany’s Philip Hamprecht (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) and the Briton Tom Grice (Tony Kart – Racing Coles) up from 19th in qualifying . Absent in qualifying, the Estonian Aavo Talvar (Tony Kart – Talvar Racing) managed to get into the top 10 after the heats. In the French camp, Corentin Collignon (Zanardi – MPK Racing) moved from 38th to 19th place, Eva Benes (Kosmic – PKS) was 24th ahead of Nicolas Picot (Sodi – Kart Racing Pro) who had made up much of his disadvantage. Bastien Leguay (FA Kart – Kart DSS) had to settle for 32nd, Cécile Martini (Sodi – Martini Racing) 36th, Vincent Fraisse (Sodi – Sodi) 40th despite a 9th place in the last heat, Kevin Petit (Sodi – Pro Kart Racing) 44th and Julien Falchero (Kosmic – Sonic Racing Kart) 52nd after two consecutive drop retirements.
