Dorian Boccolacci, who returned to the Castelletto track the week after the Italian KZ2 Championship, competed in KF behind the wheel of his customary Energy/TM in the WSK Final Cup, one of the last European meetings of the season. Not at all disturbed by this class change, he immediately adapted to the pace set by the best drivers, though he soon realised that the competition was not going to be easy from the viewpoint of “pure” performance.
Dorian set the 7th time in timed qualifying, which one would be tempted to define “disappointing” considering his performances throughout the season, and managed the race at best when grip was not ideal, in the qualifying heats, so much so that he climbed up to 2nd place after taking a win as well. He could not compete on an equal footing as far as lap times were concerned, but his well-known fighting spirit made the difference on arrival.
Though the track was dry on late Sunday morning for the pre-final, he maintained his position by fighting in the top 3. Then, the battle became even tougher in a particularly hard-fought final race. He fought to keep second place during the first laps and proved to be the most effective of the top drivers behind a leader too far to be caught. He resisted attacks from the chasing pack and even gained some ground to secure 2nd place when the finish line was in sight.
«This time I did not have the kart to win» Dorian commented after the race. «The team worked a lot and I could improve my speed a bit, but I did not have enough power to pass Ilott, who is very fast in the final phases. But I am very satisfied with this second place because I conquered it by giving my best: this is what I really like of competition!».
