The Turkish driver Berkay Besler and French driver Gautier Becq were on the front row of the last race of the 2013 Academy Trophy running at the Jean Brun circuit at Varennes. But in the fight for the title for the Belgian Maxime Potty was far enough ahead in the rankings and the Spanish driver Arturo Melgar, the only one able to contest the title.

Besler took the lead on the first lap, followed by Melgar and Potty. Edoardo Tolfo, the Italian, held fourth place ahead of Becq and Adeline Prudent, Marijan Grobenski and Nathan Hédouin. Potty was already in the lead on the second of 14 laps, determined not to let the others win. Poor Pedro Piquet was little more unlucky in the race, he was 22nd and 23rd. Becq returned to attack in second position, although the leader Potty had already got away. The posityions changed several times per lap in the chasing group consisting of five drivers. Prudent led the second group in seventh position. Gilles Magnus went over the new green grass after the pylon.

At halfway Besler returned to Potty’s wake having distanced his four comrades Tolfo, Melgar, Becq and Grobenski. Artem Petrov took control of the second group from Prudent and Hédouin. Besler overtook Potty on lap 10 for the leadership, Tolfo took the opportunity to get together with Becq. Potty was fourth. Melgar also returned to the final fight. Tolfo took the lead, Besler retook him. It was a close group that began the last lap. Becq paid the price of being rushed.

Victory went to Besler ahead of Tolfo and Melgar. Fourth, and winner of the Academy Trophy was Potty. Grobenski finished 5th, Petrov 6th, Prudent 7th and Hédouin 8th, Becq 10th.
