The Genk track was still wet for the first qualifying heat for KZ on Saturday in the late morning, but the grip improved over the laps. The duel was tight early in the race between Jorrit Pex (CRG / TM) and Max Verstappen (CRG / TM), but Max took the lead and escaped after the second lap. Anthony Abbasse (Sodi / TM) was pushed into a spin at the first corner, and dropped to the back of the pack. Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) was going well from 10th on the grid to just steal third from Jonathan Thonon (CRG / Maxter) on the last lap. The battle for 5th place eventually turned to the advantage of Jordon Lennox-Lamb (CRG / Parilla) from Charles Leclerc (ART GP / TM).

The sun was back, although shy, for the second heat which started with a clash in which Verstappen spun and retired. Pex was in the lead, but Lennox-Lamb seized the lead on lap four, with Leclerc in his wheeltracks. Abbasse mingled with the group, followed by Ardigo. Bas Lammers (Intrepid / TM) gave everything he could but with no better result than 7th place, between Thonon and Hanley.

In the intermediate classification, Lennox-Lamb did everything right by taking the lead from Ardigo, Pex, Leclerc, Thonon and Abbasse. Verstappen, in 10th, may well cause an exciting Prefinal on Sunday.
