Although the quadruple World Champion Danilo Rossi is happy to sit on the drivers commission of the FIA, he doesn’t know who backs the initiative. He has, however, taken the opportunity to express his opinions in the hope that this will lead to progress.

“No, karting is not as expensive as they say!” says Danilo with passion. “We must stop circulating higher and higher numbers that do not correspond to reality. As Team Principal, I am well placed to know how much it costs! We are not the cheapest in the paddock, but certainly not the most expensive. It is quite possible to complete an international season for €100,000. Prices of often double or triple that circulate in discussions or in the press. On the other hand, some items could cost less without taking anything away from the competition. The price of petrol, bonds, and guarantees, are all worth looking at.”

Finally, Danilo Rossi shares his vision of the future: “I do not have all the answers! But I know KF is now a development category, with good reliability, not too complicated to run, and most importantly, no more expensive than other formats run at a high level. KF should find a place in the national and regional championships. Creating a new category today, could cause the death of karting as we know it. For me, it should work on the present basis.”
