Sodi Starts Off Strong in Euro KZ

The first meeting of the European KZ & KZ2 Championship held on the circuit of Wackersdorf (Germany) gave Sodi drivers Anthony Abbasse and Charles Fiault the opportunity to show a very interesting level of performance vs. a group of top-level competitors in the two classes. There is no doubt that Sodi 2013 chassis are doing great!

In KZ (the new name for former KZ1), the class where the best 125 gearbox drivers compete, Anthony Abbasse (Sodi/TM) was one of the fastest drivers of the weekend. He had already taken an impressive win in the German Championship round held on this same track two weeks earlier. Though he was not in the ideal conditions in timed qualifying, Anthony set the fastest time already in the first qualifying heat, which he concluded with a 4th place, but then he was inflicted a 10” penalty for his start, when the stewards decided to adopt a very strict stance on this kind of violations. He was 4th up to the end of the following heat, this time with the second best lap time in the race.

In the pre-final, Abbasse took third place by climbing up 5 places and fought in the top 3 at the start of a very intense final race. He kept an excellent pace throughout the 24 laps of the decisive race and took 4th place, the same position he now occupies in the European Championship provisional classification, which opens up some interesting opportunities with a view to the second round to be held on the Belgian circuit of Genk, at the end of June.

In KZ2, French drivers suffered, but Charles Fiault (Sodi/Parilla) was the best performing driver of the French group, despite a difficult weekend. He suffered a hand injury during his second heat and was treated in hospital, where he got a few stitches. Charles did the forcing to get back into the competition and bravely concluded in 54th place in the intermediate classification. He also qualified by taking 15th place in his pre-final and continued to regain positions during the final, climbing up from 29th to 10th place on the finish line: it is definitely no small feat for an injured driver, and now he has every reason to hope for a good result in the last round.
