The competition is more open than it appears in all three categories at the 2013 Winter Cup. Indeed, although Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart / Vortex), Max Verstappen (CRG / TM) and Paolo de Conto (Birel / TM) have achieved a 100% heat win record, the opposition didn’t have a chance to fight back. Technical problems or racing incidents are partly responsible for the relegation down the field of excellent outsiders.
Fore (CRG / Maxter), Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Hanley (ART GP / TM), are capable of challenging for victory in KZ2 against De Conto, where Kozlinski (Birel / TM) will inevitably recover from 16th on the grid in the prefinal. De Brabander (Maranello / TM) also has speed, but will he restrain his behaviour? That is another question.
In KF, Kodric (FA Kart / Vortex) and Boccolacci (Energy / TM) are fast enough to challenge Verstappen, and Moilanen and Nielsen (Kosmic / Vortex) are well placed to join in the fight, Sorensen (Kosmic / TM) too, with powerful performance.
In the Juniors, The 5 drivers following Lorandi have the skills needed to participate in the finals: Ticktum (FA Kart / Vortex) is consistent and convincing, Van Leeuwen (Zanardi / Parilla) is always well placed, Defourny (Kosmic / TM) is going well, Sereia (PCR / Parilla) solidly at the front of his group and the Indian driver Daruvala (FA Kart / Vortex) is improving. Norris (FA Kart / Vortex) and Aubry (Birel / TM) also have solid claims and Beckman (Zanardi / BMB) and Betsch (Tony Kart / Vortex) are expected to improve.
The weather looks set to to remain favorable with a slightly overcast sky, but no rain on the horizon, which will remove an element of risk for the races to come.
