RMCGF 2012: Morgado wins the prefinal

Crashes at the start on the straight punctuated the start of the Prefinal in DD2 Masters, led by Briton David Griffiths, the Canadian Scott Campbell and the South African Cristinao Morgado who lost 2 places. The Irishman Martin Pierce, in fourth, was ahead of Mika Salo, Florent Lambert and Guy Pansart. Griffiths quickly tried to pull away, while the chasing group, Campbell, Pierce and Morgado, strove to join them. They got together with the leaders on lap 6.

At first Morgado, a formidable finisher, was in second position, then he attacked Griffiths to take the lead of the race. Pierce took the third position from Campbell, Lambert and Pansart. Griffiths, however, did not give up fighting for victory, and set the fastest lap. Behind Lambert, Goncalo Gaivao and Dennis Kroes rebounded in 6th and 7th places.

Morgado remained unfazed and won the prefinal by 1.3” ahead of Griffiths, Pierce 3rd, Campbell 4th, Lambert 5th. Pansart finished 9th, Charly Hipp 12th and Berteaux 13th.
