Essay GPO, Day 1

The KF3 category was most popular at Essay, and was marked by the dominance of one driver, Gabriel Aubry (Birel / TM), the leader in qualifying, winner of the prefinal and the final. Nothing stood in his way and he was alone in setting fastest laps before the champagne started flowing in the pits. The fight for the podium concerned the French drivers François Becamel, Jules Bollier and the Belgian Maxime Potty (Kosmic / Parilla), the British Callum Ilott (Zanardi / Parilla) and French Julien Darras (Tony Kart / Parilla). Becamel clinched 2nd place in the prefinal from Potty, Darras and Ilott, while the latter went on the attack in the final to clinch the second step of the podium ahead of Potty in a consistent third position.

Although there were few at Essay, competitors in the French KZ2 Championship were engaged in a war of disinformation about their tires. The Poleman Charles Fiault (Sodi / Maxter) retired early in the prefinal following Nolan Mantione (Birel / TM) and Amos Mechoulam (DR / TM), all three were in the lead at one point. Christophe Benoit (Birel / TM) finished the prefinal at the front, but had to deal with worn tyres in the final. Fiault escaped hopelessly in the lead, Mantione returned to attack Benoit who could not defend.

Like KF3, KF2 was dominated one driver, Nicolas Gonzales (DR / Vortex), who was impressive in qualifying and won both races with a performance ahead of everyone. This was the first win for the young driver in KF2 in a GPO. Victor Compere (Kosmic / Parilla) has emerged as the best opponent, leading in the Prefinal. Sébastien Bailly (Swiss Hutless / TM) nevertheless made a good start from second place in the final, but had to retire prematurely due to a mechanical problem. In the third place, the fight was between Valentin Moineault (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Pascal Belmaaziz (DR / Vortex) to the advantage of the latter in the final. Paul Boutonnet (Tony Kart / Parilla) was fifth while continuing to hone his set-up.
