A podium at the World Cup KF2 and KF3

The Circuito Internacional de Zuera, in Spain, hosted the CIK-FIA World Cup for the KF2 and KF3 categories. 5 drivers on track for Chiesa Corse, a great podium and the title of “Moral Winners”…

Callum Ilott – KF3 – A step from the title
The English driver conquered a great 2nd place that could have been a victory if the accident that also involved Stroll hadn’t slowed down the entire group and allowed Corberi to “run away.” In the final the Englishman starts 10th and, one fast lap after another (he is the author of the best lap in the prefinal, the final and all the heats he contests), does a great recovery all the way to the 2nd step on the podium. Excellent rebound also in the prefinal (from 22nd to 10th), but so much speed deserved the title conquest. Bolt of lightning.

Lance Stroll – KF3 – A contact between him and victory
The first half of his weekend is perfect: 1st place in the qualifyings and in 3 heats out of five (4th and 3rd in the other two) land him in pole for the prefinal. Here he manages his equipment as best as possible and conquers 3rd place, which means starting on the inside in the decisive final. Driver, kart, and starting position are all perfect, but the contact received from Sitnikov (later penalized, although by then the course of the race had changed), while he was running 3rd, forced him to start over from mid-field and close 10th. Too bad, he had all it takes to win.

Nikita Mazepin – KF3 – An unlucky race
The qualifyings condition his race, because here he closes 30th and then has to recover from mid-field in every heat. He manages to do so well in three races (7th, 5th and 15th), but not in the other two: in one he is 23rd due to a 10 second penalty (otherwise he would’ve been 8th) and in the other he is 26th due to a contact, and so he fails to qualify for the finals by just a few penalties. In final B he starts 4th, but again an accident at the first corner forces him to start over from the back and he closes 24th.

Dan Ticktum – KF3 – A final to forget…
10th overall after the qualifyings, he wins a heat and does great in the others (except for one where he is KO due to a contact): he thus starts 19th, but he is in good shape, as is his kart, and manages to close in 8th place. In the final he could fight for the podium, but a contact at the start forces him to climb back up from the rear: so he closes 24th on a weekend during which he proved to be one of the fastest on track.

Thiago Vivacqua – KF2 – Progressing with every race
Qualifying in 35th place doesn’t allow him start the heats from the top positions and in the first he “pays” for a broken starter that sends him KO. Weekend over? No, the Brazilian driver shows maturity, collecting a 4th, a 5th and a 10th place that translate into qualification for the finals. In the prefinal he starts 27th and does a great recovery up to 12th place, so in the final he starts ready to battle with the top men: too bad he is involved in the mega-accident at the beginning of the race and has to retire.
