Danilo Rossi could not hide his joy at Sarno, the night of the World Cup for KZ2. “It is a fantastic reward for a team to see two of its drivers on a World Cup podium! Emil and Riccardo did more than just accomplish their mission, and Leevi and Stefan ranked quite high, too. We had worked hard to be ready for this event, which is the most important of the year, and results have lived up to expectations. This is very encouraging for the future !“.
At Sarno, Riccardo Negro probably experienced his best competition weekend of the year. He showed some solid performances during the heats, though he had to retire when he was in the lead, and then he kept the pace up, climbed up to 6th in the pre-final and then to 3rd in the final, being one of the fastest drivers. The Norwegian driver Emil Antonsen surprised everybody, including his entourage, which would have already been very happy to see him simply qualified for the final. A DR Norway driver and recently the Norwegian Champion, Emil has now spread his wings in international competition. He qualified in 14th place and then seized his opportunity in the final race by claiming the second place already on the third lap and maintaining it up to the finish line, despite being under pressure from his team mate Negro.
The Austrian Stefan Riener climbed up nicely during the final and concluded with a 22nd place, though he had been relegated to the last place after the start. As for the Finn Leevi Suonppää, who was out on the first lap of the pre-final, he managed the feat to regain as many as 17 places during the final. Less fortunate, but pleased with their DR weekend, Gilberto Massetani and Brice De Gaye could not qualify for the finals this time.
Morale is therefore very high in DR Racing Kart: the Italian chassis have the wind in their sails and in-house preparation of TM engines has proved to be highly effective on a demanding track, in the face of strong adversity.
