World Cup for KZ2: Lennox-Lamb etablishes his reputation

Sun and heat were on the agenda for the KZ1 and KZ2 World Cups in Sarno. In KZ2, the Briton Jordon Lennox-Lamb took his chance and won the greatest victory of his career.

At the end of the Qualifying Heats for the KZ2 World Cup fought in Sarno, two men seemed to be ahead of the rest: the New Zealander Daniel Bray (GP-TM), leader of the intermediate classification, and the young Dutchman Max Verstappen (CRG-TM), only 10th on the starting grid for the Prefinal as a result of a broken clutch in one Heat, but remarkably fast in other confrontations. The Prefinal confirmed his pace. In fewer than two laps, Verstappen took command and flew to pole position for the Final. Behind him, Daniel Bray also took his place on the front row, whilst Simone Brenna (TB Kart-TM) lost any benefit of his 5th place on the grid when his engine failed on the first lap.

The duel expected in the Final indeed took place… but it did not last long! After covering the long straight to the Parabolica side by side, Max Verstappen and Daniel Bray completed the first lap in that order. But for his first race in Europe, the New Zealander was determined to leave his mark. Indeed he attacked his rival on the second lap to take the lead. Some few hundred metres later however, his World Cup dream faded when he collided with Max Verstappen, too impatient to regain the lead. As Max abandoned, Daniel restarted out of contention. For the two favourites, the race had already been run…

Jordon Lennox-Lamb (CRG-Maxter) had not asked for as much! Second after the Qualifying Heats and then third in the Prefinal, this time the Briton was again waiting in ambush and drove in solitary splendour to the greatest win of his career. “Frankly, I did not expect to win,” he confirmed. “I was only looking for a podium place because Max Verstappen was really too fast. But he made a mistake when he tried to take the lead on the second lap and from then on I saw that I could control the Race. Naturally I’m delighted!

Behind Jordon, the Norwegian Emil Antonsen (DR-TM) was never really in fear of his second place and, three weeks after a national title in his own country, he climbed the podium for this KZ2 World Cup. In addition, he was pleased to be joined by his team-mate, the German of Italian origin Ricardo Negro (DR-TM). For a long time in third place, the Czech Jan Midrla (Birel-TM) finally just missed a podium place, but still beat the Canadian Phillip Orcic (Zanardi-TM), the Dane Andreas Fasberg (Tony Kart-Vortex) and the Italians Alfredo Daniele Delli Compagni (CRG-TM) and Felice Tiene (CRG-Maxter). Starting from 33rd, the Austrian Marcel Müller (CRG-Maxter) made the best fight-back of the Race to finish in 9th place, just ahead of the Italian Loris Spinelli (FK-TM).
