Sarno: and the new layout?

What’s new with the “Veloce” configuration of Circuito Internzionale Napoli? The length of this fast version of Sarno goes from 1699m to 1681m with four changes, two of which have required the addition of asphalt, which hasn’t pleased the drivers who find it very bumpy. The track becomes more flowing and faster: Jérémy Iglesias (Intrepid / TM) took pole with 1’03” 103 at the 2009 World Cup, and this year, Paolo De Conto (Birel / BMB) ran at 58” 404, the average speed increasing from 96 to 103 km / h.

The first change is at the end of the long straight, which is a very long straight. Drivers have often retired at the hairpin which has seen a lot of collisions. This is currently one of the few passing zones.

The tight entrance to the paddock curve is more open and regular so no longer requires heavy braking, but shakes the machines.

The sequence of the three hairpins is replaced by a double quick left where the karts cross the curb on the outside.

The starting line is shortened by another fast right, and on the exit the rumble strip causes some heat. Speed on the timing line remains very high, at least as high as in the past.

In the end, everyone agrees that this version is challenging, but regrets the disappearance of several passing zones. Over the races, it is likely that the drivers will find solutions. Overtaking on the last right is not as easy as you would imagine for two reasons. Bravery is certainly important at speeds exceeding 160 km / h, but drivers are often in a position to pass on the small chicane, which breaks the pace a bit. On the other hand, the corner allows the driver to defend against someone passing on the outside the path of the banked corner.

There will be time on Sunday evening to refine these initial impressions after the podium of the World Cups for KZ1 and KZ2.
