On a track that offered little grip, Thiago Vivacqua managed to climb back up to an excellent position to defend his chances at the start of the final, despite a hard qualifying phase. Unfortunately, his kart got damaged in the battle and he had to give up with just 4 laps to go to his goal. This accident was all the more detrimental because the Brazilian driver’s kart was showing again a top level of performance since the pre-finals, with the potential to achieve a very good result.
The second round of the U18 World Championship held at Angerville did not bring the satisfaction that Thiago Vivacqua had every right to expect. He was handicapped by performances much below the level shown on Saturday by the best drivers and it was not easy for him to catch up after his 34th time in timed qualifying. His speed differential often exceeded 0.5 seconds per lap, which is huge on a 1,200 m long track. But he managed to qualify in 33rd position, which was already a feat, all things considered.
On Sunday, things went back to normal after a technical intervention and Thiago was finally able to show what he was capable of. During the first pre-final, he made the difference by climbing up as many as 16 places thanks to an excellent start and relentless attack. Then, he conquered a fantastic second place in pre-final 2, standing comparison with the best drivers. He was 5th at the start of the final, happy to be able to salvage the situation after a bad beginning. Unfortunately he was hampered at the start of the race and although he tried to hold out, a spindle bearing failed with 4 laps to go and he had to stop.
