Suzuka, day 2: pole for Verstappen

Pedro Hiltbrand (FA Kart / Vortex) and Daiki Sasaki (Kosmic / Vortex) were fastest in the KF1 warm-up in Suzuka on Sunday morning. Probably because of the humidity and lack of sunlight to heat the asphalt, however, performance was worse by about 6/10 compared to the previous day, and the two were running at 47” 9. Tereza Gromanova (Kosmic / Vortex) and Max Verstappen (Intrepid / TM) set times around 48” 0, while Davide Fore (CRG / BMB) led a big group on 48” 2.

 

Karol Basz (Birel / BMB) was the first to go under 48” in the first qualifying group, with a time of 47” 944,” and he improved to 47 645 after Hiltbrand posted 47” 975 on the next lap. There was a third improvement from the Pole, 47” 566, the best time of the group, ahead of the Spanish driver with 47” 649. Christian Sorensen (LH / BMB) was third in front of Matthew Graham (Zanardi / Parilla), Anthoine Hubert (Formula K / TM) and Jordon Lennox-Lamb (CRG / BMB).

Sasaki gave the signal to start the second group with 5 minutes left in the session, and all the other drivers followed him. He who set the first significant time with 47” 863 then Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart / Vortex) in his wake with 48” 014. Sasaki improved by 3/10, followed by Verstappen with 47” 603. The Dutch driver then took the lead with 47”520, then 47” 496, which gave him pole in the group ahead of Sasaki, on 47” 553, Felice Tiene (CRG / BMB), Camponeschi and Gromanova.

 

Combining the two groups, Verstappen was fastest, 1.5-tenth off pole on Saturday, ahead of Sasaki, Basz, Tiene, Camponeschi and Hiltbrand. With four drivers in the top five, the second group has been faster than the first.
