A Time of Change for Nilsson

For the first round of the WSK Euro Series, Felix Nilsson decided to change team and joined the British RFM team on a FA Kart/Vortex kart. But his experience with Energy Corse was very instructive for the young driver. His decision to change was motivated neither by the competences of Michele Panigada’s team nor by Energy chassis performances. It is however true that some TM mechanical performances are a bit lagging behind in KF3 – where there is a group of increasingly aggressive rivals – now that major international meetings are fast approaching. Felix is not the only driver in the series who wanted to race with a Vortex motorisation, as evidenced by several team changes seen on the occasion of this meeting.

Unfortunately, the Sarno round was struck by double misfortune. First of all, Felix suffered an intoxication that also affected many other entrants and he was not in his best form at the beginning of the weekend. Then, extreme weather conditions, with heavy rain downpours, made his task of getting familiar with his new kart much more complicated. In addition to that, he was in the group slowed down the most by heavy rain during timed qualifying and his 7th time in Series 3 became a lowly 38th in the general classification.

As a consequence, he started from the 8th line, right in the middle of the pack, in the qualifying heats and his challenge became even more difficult, also considering that he does not like driving in the rain. Despite all his efforts, the situation did not get any better after the qualifying phase. Though Felix managed to gain ground at the start of pre-final A, moving up from 22nd to 15th, he was attacked several times on the last few laps and had to make do with 18th place, while only the first 17 drivers gained access to the final.

Felix is now preparing for the first meeting of the European Championship, to be held next week at Varennes (France), a circuit where he performed well last year.
