As is done in the WSK, RGMMC has over the last year acquired a comprehensive video surveillance systems. At Campillos for the Rotax Winter Cup, there are 6 cameras connected via cable or wireless with an operator in the control room at all times watching the two screens, with a direct connection via walkie-talkies with the commissioners, and another showing live timing. It is not intimidating, but extremely effective.
HD cameras are controlled remotely, manually or automatically, with significant opportunities for zooming. All images are recorded and archived. The race management uses these videos during or after the races as required. Once a marshal reports an incident, the images confirm or deny it and the report is completed in a few clicks. The changes are immediately actioned, punishing most of those responsible.
The stewards often use videos to decide difficult cases and to admit the reality of a racing incident. In the end, everyone is better off and the atmosphere at the event is more healthy. The service indeed seems very convincing and the drivers are not complaining.
