The Rotax Winter Cup of 2012 finished Friday with the official qualifying sessions of 15 minutes for each of the three categories. The weather is beautiful in Andalusia, and in our region, it is not cold.

In Junior, the Briton Harry Webb (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) was on pole by a comfortable margin of 15/100 against the Dutch driver Fazio Franssen (Formula K – K Formula Europe), closely followed by 4-thousandths by Turkish driver Kaan Onder (Formula K – Protrain Racing). Japanese driver Ryo Hirooka (DR – VPDR) set the fourth fastest time, while two drivers, among the 29 present, have been declared technically non-compliant, the Austrians Preining and Janits. Of the French drivers, Pauline Pourchaire (Zanardi – Jana Racing) finished with a good 14th time, while Ferruccio Kint (Kosmic) was still a bit off the mark this time.

Another British driver, Sean Babington (FA Kart – Dan Holland Racing), was fastest of the 36 in Rotax Senior on 1’03” 752, followed by three of his countrymen, Edward Brand (Formula K – Formula K Europe), Andy King (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) and Charlie Eastwood (Formula K – Protrain Racing). The young Dutchman Dave Blom (Formula K – K Formula Europe) finished fifth 2/10 off pole. Antoine Barthon (FA Kart – Dan Holland Racing) was in 14th place ahead of Alexandre Finkelstein (Tony Kart – Competition MD), while Joffrey David, his teammate, was 23rd, Eva Benes (Sodi – PKS) 25th, Peter Auray (FA Kart – DSS) and Jeremiah Lesoudier (Tony Kart – Malevaut) 32nd and 34th.

Slightly fewer participants in DD2, 19 drivers in total, but the battle was between two drivers who know each other well, the Belgian De Ruwe Xen (Formula K – K Formula Europe) in pole position, and Kevin Lüdi (Birel – Spirit Racing) of Switzerland in second by less than a tenth. In third, the Estonian Mario Vendla (Birel – Kartdago) was nearly 2/10 back. Antoine Lepesqueux (Sodi – Sodi Junior Team) wasn’t worried about his 6th place, he knew he could improve in the heats on Saturday. Christophe Adams (Sodi – A Time Team) was in 11th place, while three drivers were disqualified after scrutineering, Alliksaar, Szymkowiak and Khudov.
