World KF1 Championship in Suzuka: opening of entries for Asia-Pacific Drivers on 3 October

From the status of opening round, the Japanese stage of the CIK-FIA World KF1 Championship has turned into that of closing one because of the events which deeply affected the country last March. Initially scheduled for 22 May, the Suzuka meeting will take place on 13 November. It will have the distinguished honour of designating the 2011 World Champion as three Drivers are still in with a chance of claiming the supreme title. There will however be an uncertainty as to the level of suspense until the announcement of the decision of the International Court of Appeal, which on 27 October will give a ruling regarding the appeal lodged by Chiesa Corse on behalf of its Driver Nyck de Vries against the Stewards’ decision to exclude him from Race 2 of the Belgian round of the Championship, held at Genk. From 30 points, Nyck de Vries’ lead over the Briton Alexander Albon could be reduced to 5 if the Court of Appeal judges were to confirm the decision pronounced by the Officials in Genk. Although he is further away in the provisional classification (50 points, or 25 according to circumstances), Italy’s Flavio Camponeschi has not said his last word and keeps a mathematical hope of donning the crown.

An extra parameter will add spice to the Suzuka event. Whereas the entry list remained unchanged for the first four rounds, it may be enriched for this final meeting thanks to participants from the Asian and Oceanian continents. A strong contingent of Japanese Drivers is expected, and as Japan is the last country in the world – along with Finland and Australia – to run KF1 in its national championship, its representatives (who are furthermore used to so-called “special” tyres) could very well be spoilsports within the European fields.

Asia-Pacific Drivers and Entrants will have the possibility to enter the event from 3 October (10am, Swiss time) to 12 October, via www.cikfia.com. Only the first entered Drivers will be retained, with twenty places allocated.

In addition to KF1, the Suzuka event will also host the single-round CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KF2 Championship, for which entries are already open, until 12 October at midnight (Swiss time).
