What with 94 competitors in KF2 and 104 in KF3, the World Cup of these two categories is pretty overloaded. Following the qualifying heats held this Friday morning, the competitors have now started their qualifying rounds this Friday afternoon and these will come to an end on Saturday evening for the KF2 series and as late as Sunday morning for the KF3.

In KF2, the amazing pole man Alessio Guazzaroni (Tony Kart-BMB) (see photo) was back in the pack having been penalised for excessive speed at the start. If he wants to confirm his pole position, he will need to come up trumps during the three qualifying heats he still needs to complete. In front of their supporters, there are in fact three Italians who proved to be the most successful with Loris Spinelli (Tony Kart-Vortex) clinching two heat victories, as also two successes for Paolo Ippolito (Tony Kart-Vortex) and one for Antonio Maria Giovinazzi (PCR-Parilla). The Brit Tom Joyner (LH-TM) was the only one to steal a heat win from the local drivers. On the other hand misfortune for the Frenchman John Filippi (Exprit-Vortex), involved in an accident at the start of the second heat, having signed a 3rd best time during practice.

The fastest in KF3 in the practice sessions was Charles Leclerc (Intrepid), who confirmed his top speed during the only heat he competed in. If on the one hand “Speedy” (alias Antonio Fuoco) impressed one and all by winning two heats, the Dutchman Max Verstappen (CRG-Parilla) on the other hand came up trumps once, and showed himself to be extremely fast. Amongst the drivers up front during the practice sessions, the most unlucky one was the Dane Nicolai Sylvest (Tony Kart-Vortex), forced to retire in his second qualifying heat after having won the first one. Also worth mentioning was the great performance put in by the Swiss female competitor Luana Emanuela Krattiger (Tony Kart-Vortex), who climbed up into 2nd place in her first qualifying heat following a 21st best time in the practice sessions.

This coming Saturday, all pretenders for victory in the KF2 and KF3 World Cups will carry on with their qualifying heats whilst the KF1 World Championship drivers will get down to serious business with their two qualifying heats as also their two first Races of the weekend. Sunday they will be taking on a similar programme … with a fourth and final Race broadcast live on Sport Italia 2. Present in Sarno, this Italian station will be broadcasting the event live from 16.00hrs through until 18.00hrs (namely the Finals of the KF2 and KF3 World Cups as also the fourth Race of the KF1 World Championship).
