De Vries in his favourite situation

1.9” was the lead Nyck De Vries (Zanardi / Parilla) had on his pursuers after the first lap. Needless to say his start was good. But there was also a close duel between Ignazio D’Agosto (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Alexander Albon (Intrepid / TM). Albon was passed at the start but attacked and grabbed second place at the end of lap one, but D’Agosto replied on the second lap. Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart / Vortex) was 4th in the wheel tracks of Albon, followed by 0.5” by Karol Basz (RK / BMB).

Later, Chris Lock (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Sébastien Bailly (Kosmic / Vortex) battled for sixth place. Albon took second place on lap five, but the chasing pack was very restless. De Vries increased his lead of about 2 seconds, and still sixth, Lock gained nearly 5 seconds on Basz. The significant gaps reflect a very different race, far from what one is accustomed to seeing in karting. Mikko Pakari (Maranello / Maranello) passed Jordon Lennox-Lamb (CRG / Maxter) for eighth place.

In mid-race, the top three were running at 1’04”9. 16 drivers remained on the 1699 meter race track … On lap 11, De Vries did a 1’04”755, D’Agosto had not given up on Albon, the Sodi / Parilla drivers Leo Roussel and Hubert Anthoine overtake again and again in 12th place . De Vries slowed down the pace a bit after another fastest lap of 1’04”657. D’Agosto was back with Albon in front just before the last lap. Albon’s response was to outbrake at the back of the circuit, then the Italian went up his inside and then tried unsuccessfully get ahead and Albon won by 3 / 100 on the finish line.

It was a lonely victory from a domineering De Vries and a solid group of Albon, D’Agosto, Camponeschi and Basz after a not very exciting race.
