Fourth World Title for Thonon and CRG in KZ1

It was at the end of a very exciting final that Jonathan Thonon gave CRG its 4th KZ1 World Cup in the last 5 years. After starting far back in timed qualifying, the Belgian driver progressively powered his way up the order in the qualifying heats while the team was adding the finishing touches to the setup of his chassis. His victory in the pre-final was a good omen, but the first laps of the decisive final were not favourable to no. 60. Lap after lap, Thonon used all his talent and the resources of his kart to get to the lead. In second place at the start of the last lap, he put the leader under pressure to try a textbook overtaking manoeuvre, a few metres before the finish line, and conquered the World Cup with a photo-finish victory. Fantastic!

CRG’s triumph was completed by the excellent performances shown byDavide Forè and Arnaud Kozlinski, 1st and 2nd in timed qualifying as well as in the provisional classification after the heats. With his Maxter straight from factory, Kozlinski ended up third in the pre-final, while Forè took 5th place. Their order reversed in the final, with Forè on the third step of the podium and Koko in 5th place, a fantastic team result for the CRG make.

The World Cup for KZ2 also proved the effectiveness of CRG chassis in this category, with Mirko Torsellini poleman in timed qualifying. The final phases were complicated by a series of incidents and a few technical problems, but Yard Pex took his CRG/Maxter to the second step of the podium, while Fabian Federer (CRG/TM) moved up from 17th to 3rd place. Torsellini made a feat by starting from 30th and climbing up to 6th, with the fastest lap in race.

Jordon Lennox-Lamb was able to battle against the best drivers of the World KF1 Championship, whose third round was held in Genk. On Saturday, he stood twice on the second step of the podium and achieved his best result of the season. Perfectly on the pace, Felice Tiene conquered a fantastic third place in Race 2 and then fought again in second place in Race 4, before losing ground in the last few laps.

CRG/Maxter karts had the opportunity to show their great potential, in all the categories, during this superb weekend of world competition in Belgium.
