CRG and Torsellini fastest in Qualifying

It’s hot in Belgium, 28°C again at 17:30 and the sky is perfectly clear. Fabian Federer (CRG / TM) opened the score in KZ2 at the World Cup at Genk on Friday afternoon with a time of 52,023 in front of Yard Pex (CRG / Maxter). Luca Bagattino (GP / TM) was in second position from Adam Janous (Intrepid / TM). Viktor Öberg (Gillard / Parilla) challenged the supremacy of Federer who replied with 52,708. This would be the reference time for this group. Federer was fastest, in front of Öberg with 52,855, Janous third, 52,903, and then Pex and Habulin. The French driver Jocelyn Pretre (Birel / TM) was 11th with 53,195, Nolan Mantione (Parolin / TM) 15th, Adam Maatougui (Energy / TM) 21st and Yohan Soguel (Alpha / Seven) 25th. The wireless connection is still fragile and monitoring of qualifying is not easy.

After Christensen and Romkema, Jan Midrla (Birel / TM) was solidly in command of Group 2, followed closely by Mirko Torsellini (CRG / Maxter), Joey Hanssen (Lenzo / TM), Nicky Moris (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Andreas Fasberg (AM / Maxter). Torsellini took the lead by the end of the session and took the group pole skilfully in front of Midrla with 52,676, Hanssen, Moris, Fasberg and Christophe Benoit (Birel / TM) sixth.

The air temperature had not fallen in the last session for KZ2, and logically performance should not be too different from group 2. Tobias Nilsson (Tony Kart / Vortex) was quickly replaced at the top of the rankings by Marco Zanchetta (CKR / TM), but the Swedish driver replied. Yuri Lucati (BRM / Maxter) took second place and although Joel Johansson (Energy / TM) wasn’t at the top, he was under 53” with a 52,846 ahead of Weber Morgan (Merlin / TM), and Riccardo Negro (DR / Parilla). Johnasson improved several times to set the absolute pole in KZ2 with 52,703 before ahead of Zanchetta, 52,848, and the surprising Dutch driver Rob Olierook (Energy / TM). Weber fourth, Ryan Van der Burgt (Maddox / Parilla) fifth, Luca Tilooca (VSK / Maxter) on a CRG-made chassis with superb Kali decorations, the original CRG brand.

The pole therefore went to Torsellini then Johansson, with nothing from the deserving Federer. Midrla was fourth, Zanchetta fifth, Öberg sixth, Hanssen seventh, Olierook 8th, and Weber 9th as the French driver ahead of 10th Van Der Burgt. Well, that’s said and well said.
