Euro Superkart: Round 2 at Most

The CIK-FIA European Superkart Championship will continue this weekend in the Czech Republic on the circuit of Most. It will be the second out of the three events counting towards the series which started in mid-May at Magny-Cours (FRA) and is scheduled to end on 7 August at Assen (NLD).

The Most Autodrom is willingly hosting the 250cc Superkarts, and as an average the European Championship stops over there every two years. The current Championship leader will however have to perform in an unchartered land as Emmanuel Vinualès (Anderson-DEA) has never set a wheel there. The numerous free practice sessions granted by the Organiser as a prelude to the imposed schedule (2 qualifying practice sessions and 2 Races) will therefore come in handy for the young Frenchman.

Triple European Champion, the Briton Gavin Bennett (Anderson-DEA) holds the third rank in the provisional classification, having scored a win at Magny-Cours followed by a 14th place in Race 2 because of a technical issue. But whereas Bennett was expecting to have to cross swords with Peter Elkmann (MS Kart-DEA), Malcolm Crowe (Anderson-DEA) or John Riley (Anderson-FPE), he is actually sandwiched between young Drivers who were not necessarily tipped as favourites: Vinualès and the German Daniel Hentschel (Anderson-DEA) call the tune in the Championship while Laurent Marchandise (PVP-FPE) and Henrik Lilja (PVP-PVP) hold the 4th and 5th spots! Considering that these two Drivers, who come from KZ karts, are almost beginners in Superkart, one can imagine that they still have a nice progression margin to exploit in the forthcoming events.

Currently 6th in the provisional classification, the former KZ and Formula Renault Driver Adam Kout will be very keen to shine in front of his home crowd. Just like his chassis (MS Kart) and his engine (VM) he is Czech and has regularly demonstrated that he had a good potential, and so has the Dutchwoman Priscilla Speelman, the only lady Driver in the field, who uses equipment of the same type. Although he has preferred the Italian DEA engine, the 2008 European Champion Peter Elkmann also uses the Czech chassis MS Kart. Better prepared than he was for Magny-Cours – where he had to complete the assembling of his kart on the spot – the German, a former Formula 3 Driver, should be a candidate for victory at Most.

The CIK-FIA European Superkart Championship Drivers will have the opportunity to run on the track four times on Friday 10 June, including once for their first qualifying practice session (17h30). On Saturday their programme will include a second qualifying practice session (10h00) and Race 1 (14h55). Their Race 2 is scheduled for Sunday at 12h10.
