The European Championship has kicked-off in fine style: the opening round having served up a magnificent battle for victory, and the first 7 drivers to take the chequered flag all finishing with less than 3 seconds between them.  Gavin Bennett asserted himself but only after seeing off a serious challenge from one of the younger experienced members of the pack, Emmanuel Vinuales. Behind these 2 drivers, who regularly passed and re-passed each other, Daniel Hentschel, Henrik Lilja, Laurent Marchandise and Cyril Vayssie fought their own race-long battle for 3rd place.  They had even been joined in the closing laps by Peter Elkmann, starting initially from back in 22nd place!  Elkmann finally took 4th place on the last lap, but was adjudged too light at the scales by a margin of… a kilo and was excluded. Daniel Hentschel, finishing 3rd, thereby secured the first European Championship podium of his career
