The GPO at Varennes was running a little late to allow competitors in KZ2 to install of wet tires for to the weather situation at the start of the final. It was particularly difficult conditions for these powerful machines. With Gaillard and Pesce, Auvergne was well represented on the front row, but the presence of Mich and Lucati on the 2nd row promised a prolonged struggle. Almost everyone was on in wets and Thomas Mich rushed into the lead and immediately had a gap. He was followed by Yan Pesce and Yuri Lucati. Charly Bizalion received a black flag after a delay in returning to his place on the grid at the start.

Pierre Ragues went on the attack on the very slippery track, closely followed by Tony Lavanant and wassoon 2nd, while fighting against Cedric Goudant. Mathieu Gaillard was in 5th before giving in to Chris Benoit. Lucati made a mistake, Goudant kept going.

Mich dominates 2” ahead of Lavanant, himself 3” ahead of Benoit. Following were Gaillard, Ragues, Pesce, Anthony Abbasse and Hugo Valente. At the halfway point, Mich further increased his lead over Lavanant, while Benoit was getting closer. Abbasse attacked Ragues, his teammate, with Valente watching at a distance. Benoit surprised Lavanant under braking at the hairpin after the start and was fifth ahead of Abbasse and Ragues then soon took Gaillard for 4th. There was still 5” to Lavanant. Valente continued its ascent, and successively passed Ragues and Gaillard, which propelled him into 5th place. Mich let up the pressure slightly, and Benoit gained very strongly.

Mich won ahead of Benoit for a nice double for Birel. Lavanant was third, on his own, Abbasse retained fourth place and Valente took a good 5th on his return to karting.
