The European season of young Asia-Pacific KF2 champion 2010 Sean Gelael started last weekend at Sarno, with a preparatory race – the Trofeo Grifone – for the first meeting of the WSK Euro Series 2011. With the support of his coach Jean-Philippe Guignet, who did not hesitate to sit again at the wheel a kart on this occasion, Sean had the chance to get familiar with the ultra fast layout of the Neapolitan circuit and find his pace, to conclude the race with a 4th place.
But things started to get serious with the WSK Euro Series practice sessions, on Friday 11 March. Sean got things going with the 18th time in his official time qualifying series, which placed him at no. 27 of the general standings out of 65 entered drivers and just 0.3 seconds short of the pole position, a very honourable result for a first WSK. During the qualifying heats, he was confronted for the first time with the frenzy of some European drivers and suffered the consequences of it in the third race, where he was forced to retire after he was run into rather seriously in the rain. Due to this accident, he could not enter the final race, while after his other results, 14th and 12th, Sean had concrete hopes to do so.
But the overall assessment of this first meeting against the best drivers in the category is most encouraging. Sean should soon be able to hold his rank in the international arena.
