The show definitely lived up to the event, with each race, each pre-final and final experiencing incredible finishes. The Rotax Grand Final at La Conca definitely produced plenty of emotion.

The DD2 was evidence of that. First the Estonian Georg Vann was most enterprising early in the race and took the lead ahead of the Belgian Maik Barten in a group of a good half-dozen drivers. Barten launched hostilities and took the lead. Barten was allowed to get away though.

Australian Jason Pringle and the British driver Patrick Pearce took themselves out. Then it was the turn of Vann who retired after braking too late and created confusion. As a result, the Canadian Daniel Morad managed to extricate himself from the pack to literally melt away Barten’s lead. On the last lap, he tried his luck and got the better of his rival. The pole-sitter on Thursday finished the race as the winner.

Behind the New Zealander Matthew Hamilton had managed to isolate himself in 3rd place, several lengths ahead of a trio of Simas Juodvirsis, who won the pre-final, the German Andre Huber and the French driver Damien Vuillaume. The latter fought hard to recover from his 22nd place after the heats and his 13th place start.

Starting 25th, the Dane Andreas Jensen managed a good comeback up to seventh place ahead of Belgium’s Christof Huibers.
