There was a fantastic chase in the pre-final between the top two in the qualifying heats: Maik Barten the Belgian and the Lithuanian Simas Juodvirsis. Faced with the Estonian Georg Vann in mid-race, Barten ended up back with the leader and it was looking good on the last lap. But at the last hairpin, he did not shut the door and the Lithuanian regained the lead.

Seeing his chance to finish first disappear, Barten slowed to finish third and start on the inside in the final, but his maneuvering against Vann failed by 2 mil! Behind the New Zealander Matthew Hamilton and Patrick Pearce finished in close formation, a few lengths ahead of the Australian Jason Pringle.

For the French, Dominique Chech made a good starting up in the top-10, but was heckled in the pack and slipped back to 16th position. Starting 22nd, Damien Vuillaume posted very fast times on the track, and had the performance to fight for a podium. Would 11th on the grid be enough?

In a category where any retirement is regrettable, it went wrong for the American Troy Castaneda and the Dane Andreas Jensen, only 25th when he set the fastest race lap, two tenths better than the lead of the race.
