Suninen makes an impression in qualifying

Suninen was impressive in the wet qualifying session where the rain stopped a few minutes before the start of the first session for the U18 World Championship. The track was still wet with a few puddles despite the work done by the marshals. The conditions improved steadily over the laps, but gaps remained between first and last.

In the first session, the Finn Teemu Suninen (Maranello) produced a festival of virtuosity improving on each lap to close the session with 1:11.869, 6/10 ahead of Alex Walker (Intrepid) and Jake Dennis (Topkart). Mathieu  (Sodi) took 4th while Jordan Chamberlain (Intrepid) took 8th after a long battle. Tanart Sathienthirakul (Intrepid) from Thailand was 5th.

The second session appeared to be generally less efficient despite the track having more grip. Stefan Reiner (Intrepid) was ahead at first, just in front of Luca Stolz (Mach 1). But Jiri Forman (MS) put them all in their place with 1:12.201. Reiner was 2nd and Stolz 3rd. John Norris was 4th and Julian Wagner (Mach 1) 5th.

The last session was headed by Sam Snell (Intrepid), faster than the preceeding group with 1:12.200 before he went off the track. Adrian Del Rio (PCR) and Simon Wagner tried to counter it but Matias Koykka (Maranello) took 2nd, while Alex Baron (Sodi) slammed into 3rd on the wire from Del Rio and another French driver John Barbe(Tecno). Andrick Zeen (Sodi) finished 7th, Vincent Fraisse (intrepid) 8th, Anthony Micoud (Intrepid) 15th and Leo Roussel (Sodi) missed out on the whole session.

Overall, Suninen remained 1st ahead of Snell and Forman.
