Thanks to its fetish driver Pierre Gasly, the Sodi Racing Team has become vice champion of the European KF3 Championship in Genk, this weekend. This success rewarded the French constructor of all efforts made in international competition, but also left the team with a faint feeling of disappointment because excellent performances by the Gasly/Sodi had raised hopes of victory.
The European title did not end up in France for a hair’s breadth. The Genk track is a very technical one and race management is extremely complicated. High temperatures at the Limburgian meeting, the stake of the meeting, the impetuousness of certain participants were as many factors that pre-empted exploitation of the full potential of the team.
«We had everything it took to win», explained Nicola De Cola, SRT team principal. «We know our equipment perfectly well and our driver knows how to make full use of all his resources, when needed. I must confess that I am a little disappointed at sport commissioners. It is not normal that drivers can cut through the track on the large kerb of the second turn and then come colliding in full impunity against those who managed to make a better start. It distorts the race and it is something difficult to accept at this level. Pierre followed the instructions perfectly in the final race and was third after the start, though then he slipped back to 9th. He bravely made up for his delay, but the leader had had the time to escape. It’s annoying. Having said that, a 7-place recovery over the best drivers in the middle of the European final proves the worth of our driver and his equipment…»
The moral of the team is high and the Sodi/Parilla is ready to battle for the rest of the French Championship season and at the World Cup in Braga.
