Kartcom wins the WSK Press Race

The highlight of the day will undoubtedly be the race of journalists organized by the WSK. A certain restlessness invaded the paddock late in the day when the powerful 270cc Honda karts were brought onto the dummy grid. After three practice laps, the cream of the international press were under starter Ignazio D’Agosto’s orders. The starting order had been previously determined by a simple and effective method, drawing lots.

At the lowered flag, the brand new Sodi RX7s pounced to attack the track of Portimao, boosted by the sometimes overflowing enthusiasm of their drivers. A leading group was quickly distinguished from the bunch of madmen who tore into the dust. The big race then lasted for 7 laps in front of many fascinating and dumbfounded spectators.

Ideally placed in 4th position after the start, Philip Kalmes was quickly seen as a threat by the Italian press. In a suicide bombing, Ronnie Ghezzi of TKart, went to the outside like a Pokemon to eliminate the Frenchman. “I had the machine to win and the right feeling with the lines,” explained Philippe. “Portugal is my second home, Our Lady of Fatima was with me, the victory is already looming. I returned at the speed of sound to the top three when I was struck by cowardly TKart. I tried everything to get back, but the race director realized that I had cut the track, but not the wild maneuver of Ronnie.”

The stars of the media crossed the finish line cheered on by a crowd: Frederic Billet (Kartcom) successfully won the World Championship at the finish ahead of Cristiano Beretta (Monza Informa) and Tino Cacopardo (CT Photos).

Tino Cacopardo, on the third step of the podium said: “I am very satisfied with this performance in a particularly important race. Thanks Tec-Sav for his successful intervention at a distance on my engine. Although well advised by the famous African marabout Celestine, I could have fought for the lead. More seriously, I loved the layout of Portimao. “

Renaud Didier of Kartmag, explained: “With three French drivers in the top 5, we overcame the indignity of Team France (Football).”

As the winner, Frederick Billet of Kartcom, very excited, he wished to “thank the team who did a great job, efficiently manufactured Dunlop tires, Honda’s mechanical roll to perfection, and these famous Sodi chassis. The drawing I had was not very favorable, I was only third on the grid, but I fought with the energy of despair. Initially, I was impressed by all these competent journalists wearing helmets of the best drivers such as Marco Ardigo, Kozlinski … Armed with the racewear of Gianni Gazzurelli, I quickly realized that only talent mattered. “

Thank you to WSK Promotion for this great sporting moment.
