It was imperative for De Conto to improve his performance if he wanted to be crowned tonight as Pesce and Visser also figured in the title race and also Lucati could disrupt the contenders.

Visser contained Pesce after the start with heavy braking. Lucati was not going well and was back in 20th position. De Conto was only 11th. Pesce took the lead, but Visser replied. On lap 3 in a clash at the end of the straight, the two drivers lost time. Visser braked hard at the pylon, and went off at the corner, so that was it for his chances of victory.

Pesce maintained the lead, but Brenna, who had been too quickly dismissed, was cleverly placed in second position ahead of Fuchs, De Conto and Habulin, highly motivated. The leading trio was together. De Conto attacked Leitjens, his teammate, to gain 4th place. Brenna was very threatening to Pesce, but the Auvergne driver resisted. Brenna knew he had to win the race to be champion. On the 10th of 17 laps, Brenna took the lead, but Pesce did not let him stay there long. Because of this fight in at the front, the top seven drivers are still very clustered and nothing was certain.

Fuchs tried his luck but could not pass and lost 9 places, leaving De Conto 3rd place and perhaps the title. Pesce drove a great race, free from any errors despite the constant threat from Brenna. On the last lap. Brenna tried everything, but Pesce prevailed to the end and won the last race of the European Championship.
