Incredible victory for Abbasse

Who was going to worry Anthony Abbasse and his Sodi / TM in the KZ2 final at Angerville in the GPO? That was the question! Emilien Grosso (Intrepid / TM), who started on the front row? Christophe Benoit, the only racer to defend the colours of Birel? Pierre Etienne Chaumat (Intrepid / TM) and his astronomical starts? Wait and see …

Well, Abbasse led at the start, for sure. Chaumat closed in on second place, before taking Grosso few corners later. Benoit sustained some damage at the start. Yannick Savard retired on lap 2: with his anti-parasite defeated, he tried to replace it, ouch, ouch, ouch! Morgan Weber was in fourth position before getting attacked by Benoit, Ragues and Pesce.

Meanwhile, Abbasse drove as if on fire, which was far from the case and he set several fastest times. The positions were stabilizing: Abbasse was first followed by Chaumat, Grosso, Benoit, Ragues, Pesce, Weber and Goupy. Mechoulam retired on lap 9. Abbasse stretched out a lead.

On lap 14, Chaumat slowed down the pace and Grosso seized his chance to take second. Abbasse gestured to his team going past the rostrum. In 17th, Brice De Gaye improved his fastest time. Here, Abbasse stopped at the cafeteria to drink a glass and left retaining the lead of the race. Unbearable suspense on the last lap: would he have time to finish his photo shoot before being joined by his opponents? And yes, he won the race ahead of Grosso, Chaumat, Benoit and Pesce.
