Most of the younger drivers were sometimes very aggressive in their racecraft throughout the heats, but the start of their pre-final went smoothly after a second parade lap. Peter Hoevenaars took the lead and Max Verstappen took 2nd on lap 1 ahead of Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon. Gasly took Verstappen on the start of the third lap. In 7th Loris Spinelli clocked the fastest time in approaching Hansson.
Gasly came back to the leader, Hoevenaars, and Verstappen in 3rd was now threatened by Albon. Changes on lap 4, Gasly was now ahead of Albon, Hoevenaars and Verstappen. Davey Koch held 5th from Spinelli. In 12th, Anthoine Hubert slowly recovered from his delay, with the fastest time at that time. Lap 6: Albon was in control of the race and a tight bunch of 5 drivers.
Davey Koch passed Hoevenaars who replied at once. Spinelli was close to the leading group. Albon was 5 / 10 ahead of Gasly and 1.1 seconds from Verstappen. There was a big fight between the well-matched Hansson, Rossel, Pakari, Hubert and Van Meever for 7th. Positions and differences were stabilizing for the first time. There were three laps to go.
Hubert took the opportunity to win a few more places and finished eighth after a great race. Victory went to Albon from Gasly, Verstappen, Hoevenaars, Koch, Spinelli and Rossel.
