We can’t talk about timed practice for the KF3 World Cup without telling the story that led up to the result. As in KZ1, some were tempted to keep their tyres fresh for the second session, probably to be on a track with more rubber. But this choice was somewhat risky as the weather wasn’t settled. Like their elders, the Juniors had to deal with rain and a slippery track. The last group was most affected, with Carlos Sainz Jr (Tony Kart / Vortex) not taking the track in the 1st session and didn’t complete a single lap, suffering a broken engine, and the second session was stopped by rain and a red flag.

Also, given the large gap between the groups, the 101% rule was applied and the order was even more disrupted. The other favorite for the race, Danil Kvyat (Tony Kart / Vortex), was less fortunate, but nevertheless had to be satisfied with 46th position! The fastest driver of the day was Nyck De Vries (Zanardi / Parilla) who was already in front on his own, ahead of Loris Spinelli (Tony Kart / Vortex) and the French driver Pascal Belmaaziz (Intrepid / TM) who were  both fast and lucky. After his disappointment at the start of the season, it’s a welcome turn of events.
